Charles Darwin formulated in his theory of evolution that only species adapted to their environment can continue to live. Species must therefore evolve, and they do so through mutation. Thanks to this evolution, life on Earth has been remarkably successful. However, to avoid the same fate as the dinosaurs, a different kind of evolution than genetic mutation is needed.
Our brain can undergo intelligent evolution. In the brain, knowledge and wisdom are like genes, new information is like mutations, and truth is the best mutation and misinformation the worst. These mutations are transmitted from one brain to another. Compared to physical evolution, intelligent evolution has three advantages.
First, intelligent evolution is much faster than physical evolution because we can share knowledge and wisdom with all humankind, whereas physical characteristics are only passed on to offspring.
Second, intelligent mutation is much more efficient than genetic mutation because we make scientific discoveries and create artistic works consciously, whereas genetic mutation occurs randomly. It would take me over trillions of years to write a play like Twelfth Night by choosing words at random, but William Shakespeare produced the play in several years through his imagination.
Third, intelligent evolution gives us a chance to survive and thrive long on Earth and beyond. Fossil evidence tells us that most species on Earth have become extinct primarily due to natural events such as major ice ages and the arrival of large asteroids. In addition, our sun, by becoming a red giant in billions of years, will end all life on the planet. It will be impossible for any species to survive all these events through physical evolution.
